Vlog from the visit in October 2021
Thanks for dropping into the Apprentice 121 website! I wanted to write a little article about something we was involved with during October 2021.
The brilliant Craig Buist from Waltham Forest college organised a day at his college for learners to visit and have assessments during half term. Helping to move portfolios along for learners who have maybe not had access to work sites during Covid.
Craig obtained equipment from across industry to turn an old classroom into a real world learning facility for the students at the college. From Glasgow units, metering, TPN DBs, Test boards, Lighting boards and live working booths. Its an incredible effort to make this happen. I had a walk around the college in my video if you want to take a look
He mentioned this in the apprentice 121 discord (tiny but helpful community of people!) and said how anyone was welcome to be involved. We shared this out into the A121 community and me and my team attended on the day to help with the single and three phase setup.
We had equipment donated in from multiple manufacturers to the college, learners, staff and industry electricians all working together to help move this new learner facility along.
We also had the awesome Neil Bridgman design and produce a fantastic document to share with learners. This is great to give a real world experience of working from design/plans. See it attached below!
I wont go into all the details from the day as they are shown in the video and podcast on this page (go check them out!). But Craig and his staff looked after everyone very well and it was a fantastic experience. We had industry famous and brilliant electricians Mike Page and Ryan Davis onsite grafting! Pizza was laid on and I had the pleasure of meeting the college principle Janet Gardner.
We had a brilliant day helping and apprentice 121 have more of this coming soon. The number of messages from people wanting to be involved next time is incredible. This is what community spirit is all about.
Thanks again to Craig, the staff and learners at the college
